What Is Schedule B?
Schedule B reports certain interest/dividend detail and includes foreign account/trust questions.
How it works
The rule, and what it turns on.
All taxable interest/dividends must be reported even if Schedule B itself is not required.
Example
$4,000 bank interest and $2,000 ordinary dividends can require Schedule B detail.
Common mistakes
What we see go wrong, and what we do instead.
- Omitting interest because no 1099 arrived.
- Ignoring foreign account questions.
A better approach
- Reconcile Forms 1099-INT/DIV to brokerage/bank records.
