This question is answered in full on the main page for it.

How it works

The rule, and what it turns on.

The partnership generally passes tax items to partners rather than paying federal income tax on ordinary pass-through income.

Example

$200,000 ordinary partnership income with two equal partners can generally produce $100,000 K-1 ordinary income each, subject to agreement and tax rules.

Common mistakes

What we see go wrong, and what we do instead.

  • Preparing from P&L only.
  • No partner capital/liability data.

A better approach

  • Tie the return to books, partnership agreement and partner schedules.

Authority
